My definition of luck

You go to an examination, fully prepared. Reach ontime and receive question paper. You are happy that you know all the answers. You take your pen and start writing BUT it is not writing. you know that it was working fine when you checked before coming to exam. No problem, you have a back up pen. My god ! it is also not working !. So what ? one of your fellow members must be carrying more than one pen. You are shocked to notice that everyone carried only one pen including the examiner. You tried to get a pen from outside but it is a remote area and no way you get a pen with in 3 hours. You tried all your engineering techniques to make one of your pen write but in vain. You waited expecting that some one finish early and you can barrow his/her pen BUT every one took full time. Finally you failed in the exam.So it is your bad luck

Before blaming the luck, let us make all the efforts

Kaizen and 5S for children

The best stage to develop kaizen mindselt is childhood. Children grasp the ideas quickly and make it as an habit. 5S helps children to develop the culture of discipline right from the begining.

One of my friend forwarded me this story

Class 10th student of St. Ursula High school, Pune, Maharashtra has done very good kaizen, a very simple solution to her problem…
This problem has been faced by most of us. Every time pins in the stapler get finished, we are caught unaware. Ankita was sitting and stapling some papers one day when suddenly the staple pins finished. Her father asked her why she didn't know that they were about to finish? He asked her to think of a way to ensure that the next time she knows beforehand that the staples were coming to an end. This got Ankita thinking. She came up with the idea to paint the last three staple pins with nail polish. But the paint was too thick.
Then she substituted that by using a permanent marker and that worked well. This worked well and it helped in indicating that the pins were coming to an end.
It saved on time, is easily adaptable and easy to use at no extra cost.
Moral : KAIZENs are not costly improvements , most of the time they are rather cost effective improvements !!

Note : 5S is a concept developed by japanaese helps for better house keeping and identification of abnormalities immediately. In modern lean companies 5S is used as a foundation for world class manufacturing. 5S stands for SEIRI - Sortout un wanted items, SEITON: Systematic arrangement (PEEP - Place for everything and everything in its place) SEISO : Shining or cleaning SEIKETSU : Standardization and SHITSUKE : Self Discipline.

Kaizen mindset

Life is full of problems ! Problems can be also redefined as opportunities ! If we see no problem, then there is a serious problem. The recognition and acknowledgement of a problem requires totally different eyes and mindset (paradigm). Taichi Ohno, Masaaki Imai, Shingo, Newton, Einstein ,Edison, Deming,Juran .. all had this special mindset called Kaizen mindset. For Japanese, Kaizen is Way of Life. Let us come out of complacency and explore POWER OF KAIZEN.
Kaizen is a Japanese word means change for better . It is adopted by companies like Toyota to achieve excellent results. Gemba Kaizen is a famous book written by Masaaki Imai explains about this concept.
